Found steel plates hang free on shaped steel pegs. The plates are heavily rusted and hammer marked; their textures are fascinating. They hang loose on their steel pegs and can easily be lifted away to be handled and viewed up close. Unlike most of my steel work, these plates have no protective coating. With handling they will darken. Virtually any use will add to their character: doorstop, garden decoration, anvil, coffee-table conversation starter. This totem's charred wood back can be adapted as a wall fixture so the plates can be removed and replaced without jarring or knocking down the wood. Or include this totem with four or six others for a spectacular wall display.
